Development of silicon based negative electrode material for lithium ion battery

背景 / Background
In recent years, the need for capacity improvement of lithium ion batteries has been increased due to the improvement of electric power used by smartphones and the improvement of cruising distance of electric cars. We are focusing on silicon based negative electrode materials which are considered to contribute to capacity improvement.
開発内容 / Development
シリコン系負極材の最大の課題は充放電による電極の膨張によるサイクル劣化です。この問題を解決するために繊維業界で培った量産技術を活用した独自プロセスを開発し、従来よりもシリコン系材料の粒径を小さくすることに成功しました(図1)。本負極材を用いることにより高容量とサイクル特性の両立したリチウムイオン電池を得ることができます。
The problem of silicone negative electrode material is cycle degradation due to electrode expansion. In order to solve this problem, we developed a unique process utilizing the mass production technology cultivated in the textile industry and succeeded in reducing the particle size of the silicon material than usual materials (Fig. 1). By using this negative electrode material, you can obtain a lithium ion battery that has both high capacity and cycle characteristics.
